Zusammenfassung: | European integration is an objective widely shared in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conclusion of a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) is the first step in the EU integration process. EU accession requires major reforms and adjustments in Bosnia and Herzegovina so as to comply with the criteria for EU membership. EU accession can be expected to bring about substantial benefits for the Bosnian economy. Positive effects will arise from increased
international trade and foreign direct investment as well as from EU structural funds transfers. Once Bosnia and Herzegovina has become a EU Member State, the country will participate in the EU policy-making procedures. The EU Treaty provides for a wide range of multinational surveillance and coordination measures. This paper presents an overview of potential macroeconomic and fiscal effects of EU membership for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as an outline of the EU economic policy framework.
