Zusammenfassung: | summary: the typical structure of interlocking directorates among financial and industrial corporations in today's economy is characterized by the central position of the banks and those corporations with the highest turnover rate. there exist two competing approaches that aim at explaining that structure: the theory of environmental control and the theory of financial control. based on data on personal interlocks among 70 austrian industrial corporations and 9 austrian banks, the present paperexamines which of the two approaches can more adequately explain the typical structure of the industrial and financial interlocks. for testing the data we employ a graph theory model which makes the potential intercorporate flow of power operationalby the direction of the interlocks. the results of our analysis support the presumptions of the theory of financial control.; |
