Zusammenfassung: | Temporary layoffs, i.e. rehires of the unemployed by their former employers, are an important feature of the austrian labour market. longitudinal data analyzed in this paper show that approximately one third of all spells of unemployment registered in 1985 ended with the individual returning to the former employer. since temporary layoff unemployment is on average of shorter duration, it comprised a somewhat lower fraction of total unemployment. however, temporary layoff unemployment thus accounts for pretty much the same proportion of unemployment in austria as in the us or canada.; |
